I love that through technology, we sometimes get to meet and connect with extraordinary people across the world.

Caitlyn McDonald is one of those people who I have been able to connect with — down-to-earth, friendly, incredibly talented, and always growing her gifts.

Caitlyn recently shared that she is closing her “shop” so she can expand her photography business. Her art, photography, writing, and entrepreneurial spirit have truly captivated my attention.

Today, I want to celebrate Caitlyn — an autistic photographer whose work, courage, and storytelling led to an unforgettable Royal Honor.

Caitlyn shared that being invited to the Royal Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse because of her photography of the HMS Dasher Memorial was something she still could hardly believe.

And honestly, isn’t that the kind of moment we hold onto?

The kind that whispers, “Look how far you’ve come.”

What touched me most about Caitlyn’s story was not only the royal invitation, the pictures with royalty, and beautiful outfits, although that is incredible. It was the heart behind it.

Her photography was born from a passion for telling stories through her camera. She used her gift to honor memory, history, and meaning — and that gift was recognized in a way that became a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

She shared the day with her mum and dad, who believed in her, supported her through challenges, and encouraged her to follow her dreams.

That warmed my heart, because as parents and caregivers, isn’t that what we hope for?

That one day, all the encouragement, all the believing, and all the quiet support behind the scenes helps our loved ones step into a moment that belongs fully to them.

Caitlyn shared:

“As an autistic photographer, there have been times when I questioned whether I was capable of achieving my dreams. Today reminded me that being different doesn’t stop you from reaching them.”

That sentence is everything.

Because this is what I want our families to remember:

Autism does not erase possibility.
Different does not mean less.
Different does not mean dreams must stay small.

Sometimes the dream begins with a camera.

Sometimes it begins with a special interest.

Sometimes it begins with one person saying, “I believe in you.”

And sometimes, that dream leads all the way to a royal garden party, beautiful memories with mum and dad, and a moment that will forever hold a special place in someone’s heart.
