DREAM
Facing Lions, Giants, and the Battles We Carry
Last winter, a cute musical version of David came out.
It was the story of the young shepherd boy who once killed a lion with his bare hands to protect his sheep. Later, that same boy stood before a giant named Goliath.
David was brave, yes.
But David also had a plan.
Before he faced the giant, he went to the stream and gathered the stones he would need for the battle.
Because parents and caregivers of individuals with autism and other disabilities know what it means to face battles.
Some days, we are fighting lions.
We fight to protect peace, routine, safety, dignity, services, understanding, and the needs of the people we love.
And then, once in a while, a Goliath appears.
For one family, the giant may be a diagnosis.
For another, it may be an IEP meeting, a medical concern, a behavior crisis, a difficult transition, a financial burden, a lack of support, or the loneliness that sometimes comes with caregiving.
Every family’s lions and giants look different.
But like David, we do not have to walk into the battle empty-handed.
We can gather our rocks.
These are five rocks I would like to share:
Rock 1 — Love is the first rock because it is what keeps us showing up.
Not perfect love. Not easy love. But the kind of love that stays.
The kind of love Scripture describes when it says:
“Love suffereth long, and is kind… envieth not… not easily provoked, thinketh no evil… beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Love never faileth.”
That kind of love does not mean we never get tired.
It means we keep choosing what matters.
Rock 2 — Family & Friends are another rock because no one should have to face giants alone. Sometimes we already know who our people are. Sometimes we realize we need to find them.
Rock 3 — Preparedness, even for emergencies is a rock because making plans, gathering information, keeping documents ready, learning what to do in an emergency, and thinking ahead before the crisis arrives, it’s valuable.
Rock 4 — Courage is a rock because there are days when we have to speak up, ask again, explain again, advocate again, and keep going even when our voice shakes.
Rock 5 — Faith is a rock because there are moments when we need strength bigger than our own.
So today, I want to ask you:
What are your lions and Goliaths right now?
What rocks are you carrying?
And which rocks do you still need to gather?

Five Travel Rocks to Pack Before the Suitcase
Before David faced Goliath, he chose his stones carefully.
He did not wait until the giant was standing in front of him to start looking for what he needed.
Travel can feel the same way for autism families.
Sometimes the “giant” is not the destination.
It is the airport line.
The loud restaurant.
The unexpected delay.
The hotel room that does not feel right.
The change in routine that nobody saw coming.
That is why autism-friendly travel begins before the suitcase is packed.
Here are five travel “rocks” families can gather before the journey.

Travel will not always be perfect.
But when you gather the right rocks before you go, your family can feel more prepared, supported, and confident.

Create Your Family’s Five-Rock List
Today, I want to challenge you to sit down for a few minutes and write down your rocks.
You can borrow mine, or you can choose your own.
Ask yourself:
Rock 1 — Love
How does your loved one need to be loved right now?
Rock 2 — Family & Friends
Who are the people who show up for you? And if you do not have those people yet, where might you begin finding them?
Rock 3 — Preparedness
What is one area where you could prepare more — for daily life, emergencies, or travel?
Rock 4 — Courage
On the days that are hard, what can help you build or show courage?
Rock 5 — Faith
What keeps you strong? How can you build faith in your beliefs, your family, and your future?
And if travel is something your family is dreaming about, write down your own Family’s Five-Rock Travel List:
One sensory tool my child needs when traveling
One accommodation we may need to request
One backup plan we should prepare
One support person or resource we can contact
One hope we have for our next family adventure
You do not need to have everything figured out today.
Just start by gathering one rock.
Then another.
And another.
Because when the lions come, and when the giants stand in front of us, we do not have to face them empty-handed.
We can face them with love, support, preparedness, courage, and faith.
One rock at a time.
How I can help with your travel rocks! 🧳
At Gathering Memories Travel, I help families gather their travel “rocks” before the journey begins. Together, we plan around your child’s sensory, communication, food, sleep, transition, and downtime needs — not around what everyone else is doing.
Because autism-friendly travel is not about forcing your family to fit the trip. It is about designing a trip that fits your family.
If you are ready to dream about travel with more peace, preparation, and support, I would love to help you gather the right rocks for your next adventure.

I'm 63 With $1.5M. Can I Spend $10K a Month?
You’ve saved $1.5 million. Now comes the real test.
Can it produce $10,000 a month, or will that pace drain your portfolio?
Most retirees do not get a clear answer until it is too late.
The issue is not just how much you have. It is whether your portfolio was built to pay you, not just grow.
That difference can determine whether your money lasts decades or starts breaking down early.
Sequence of returns, taxes on withdrawals, healthcare costs, and whether the 4% rule still applies all play a role.
Fiduciary advisors created a breakdown showing what drives sustainable income and why the same $1.5M can produce very different outcomes.
If you have $1M or more invested, do not guess.
