DREAM

Sometimes, the Most Extraordinary People Open Doors You Didn’t Know You Needed🌟

Sometimes in life, we get to cross paths with extraordinary people.

I had the privilege of chatting with one extraordinary lady, an entrepreneur who started an incredible nonprofit organization— while running her own business and working at a real estate firm.

I reached out because I've been exploring what it would take to create a nonprofit to benefit young adults impacted by autism. What I didn't expect was to discover that she is also a mom — a mom of a young adult with autism and many special needs.

How does someone do the work of ten people, make a massive impact, and create a lasting legacy?

I had to ask.

Her answer was almost surprisingly simple: calendar everything, and fiercely protect your time.

I admire her as a fellow entrepreneur, and so much of what she does and accomplishes, but what I admire the most, wasn't efficiency. It wasn't business strategy.

It was her deepest motivation

Her child.

Her dream — inspired by her own child — became something real and beautiful and life-changing for hundreds of families, all born from that love.

So today, I'm turning the question to you. 💛

  • What inspires you?

  • What do you wish you could create?

  • What dreams have been quietly living in the back of your heart?

It doesn't have to be big enough to change the world — though it absolutely could be.

It can be something small and beautiful, just for your family. A sensory-friendly vacation you've been afraid to plan. A new routine. A first trip. A memory you've been putting off making.

Dream it anyway. Write it down. Put it in a calendar.

That's how extraordinary things begin.

Always keep dreaming — for yourself, and for the ones you love most. 🌱

From Cactus Close-Calls to Healing — What Horses Taught Me About Fear 🐴

My first time riding a horse on my own was in the Chiricahua Mountains.

I did okay the entire way — right up until we started heading back to the stables.

I'd been warned that my horse might take off running to get back to his stall faster. Fine. I was mentally prepared for that.

What I was not prepared for?

The mailman.

His mail-mobile flew past us, my horse got spooked, jumped a three-foot berm, and bolted — straight toward a patch of cactus.

What followed was the fastest unmount in the history of horseback riding. I genuinely thought I was about to be launched into a jumping cholla!.

I was terrified of horses after that. Not "a little nervous." Terrified.

It wasn't until years later, through the equine program at Miraval Arizona, that I finally started to heal that fear.

Something about the slowness of it — the groundwork, the presence, learning to read a horse, and working together — gave me back a sense of safety I didn't know I'd lost.

And that experience is exactly why equine programs hold such a special place in my heart when I think about families navigating autism.

Here's what the research tells us — and what I've felt firsthand:

Horses don't care about labels. They respond to energy, to calm, to connection.

Therapeutic riding is an equine-assisted activity designed for the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of people with disabilities.”

Spotlight: Savannah Station — Where One Family's Dream Became a Legacy 💛

Today I want to shine a light on an amazing family and a very special place.

Savannah Station is the nonprofit therapeutic riding program co-founded by Athena Captain, the extraordinary entrepreneur I told you about in our DREAM section — and the heart of this story goes much deeper than horses.

This beautiful 20-acre horse facility was inspired by her daughter, Savannah — a young woman with autism and other special needs who brought joy, courage, and the biggest smiles to everyone she met.

Savannah felt free when she rode horses.

She had a special connection with them. Even as a non-speaker, she communicated something that needed no words at all: pure, radiant joy.

Savannah Station will forever carry her courage, her strength, and her memory.

Today, I pay tribute to Savannah — a young woman who lived to touch lives with love and light, and who proved that non-speaking individuals of all ages deserve every opportunity to learn, grow, and shine.

You will be amazed at what they can do — if just given the chance. 🌟

I also want to share the impact that Savannah made in her step dad. Such a powerful story! See how a tough Marine with a hard past, had a hard choice to make, the people who told him to walk away, and how he just melted through Savanna’s love.

The greatest gift we can give any person with autism is this: believe in them before they can prove it to you.
Presume competence — not as a theory, but as a daily practice. Because the inability to speak is not the inability to think. The inability to control a body is not the absence of a soul.
