πΈThis October, Show Up For Yourself β And For Them
A few months ago, my phone rang.
"Your results came back abnormal. Please call us back to schedule an ultrasound."
I hung up and just⦠sat there.
What did they see? What does abnormal even mean? Those few days of waiting felt like months. And when I finally got the ultrasound done, the technician said, "Please wait β the radiologist will examine your results."
Ten minutes felt like hours.
She came back in: "You are good to go. It's just a small cyst."
The relief I felt was overwhelming.
This wasn't my first time navigating something like this. A few years ago, I had a pocket of fluid that needed to be drained. I literally watched on a monitor as the doctor used a syringe to remove it. Honestly? It was fascinating β and a little surreal.
But here's what I want you to take from this moment with me today.
Do It For You. Do It For Your Family.
With everything on our plates β appointments, therapies, school meetings, advocacy, caregiving β one more thing to schedule can feel impossible. I know. I get it!
But this one? This one is non-negotiable.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And yes, you see pink everywhere β on cereal boxes, on shirts and socks. But behind all that pink are real women. Real stories. Real fights.
I have women in my life who I love deeply β women who are fighting right now, having surgeries. Women who fought and won. And dear ladies we lost to breast cancer.
I also know women in my life whoβve told me:
"I'm fine. I don't need it."
"I don't want to know."
"I don't want them to find one more thing wrong with me."
I understand the fear. I do. But sweet friend β not knowing doesn't make it go away.
When was the last time you had a mammogram?
This is your sign. Your nudge. Your reminder from someone who has sat in that waiting room, held her breath, and exhaled in relief β and knows it doesn't always go that way.
Do it for you. Do it for your family. Do it so you can be here β for every trip, every milestone, every ordinary Thursday that turns into a memory.
Let's save the girls. πΈ
Schedule it today. Don't wait until next week. Not next month. Today.

πYou Cannot Pour From an Empty Cup
With cooler weather and fall breaks around the corner β are you planning any family outings?
I want to offer you something simple but powerful today:
Travel is not a luxury. It's medicine.
Just like we schedule mammograms, we need to schedule joy. And here's the truth β if you don't schedule it, it doesn't happen. It gets pushed. It gets postponed. It disappears into the chaos of the week.
Fall break is the perfect reset. For families running on empty from school routines, therapies, and the daily marathon of caregiving β even a short trip can be the exhale you didn't know you needed.
And before you tell me you don't have time β I hear you. I really do.
Many parents have told me, "Eloisa, I barely have time to shower or eat."
That's exactly why I'm bringing this up.
Shorter trips equal less overwhelm. Even one night away counts. You don't need a two-week vacation to reset your nervous system. You just need a break.
Could you escape for a day or two? With the family β or without?
Here are a few ideas that count as a real reset:
A long, uninterrupted bath (seriously β lock the door)
A date night with your spouse or partner
An outing with your closest friends
A massage, a manicure, a pedicure
One night at a local hotel β no agenda, no rushing
A weekend road trip somewhere new
You cannot pour from an empty cup. And that includes planning a trip that actually refills yours, so you can keep going in taking care of your kids, your family, and everything else.
Now β if a longer trip IS in the picture? Even better.
Right now is one of the best times of year for end-of-year and last-minute cruise deals. Prices drop, availability opens up, and I happen to know exactly how to make those experiences work beautifully for autism and sensory families.
That's what Gathering Memories Travel is here for.
Whether you're dreaming of a sensory-friendly resort, a cruise your whole family can actually enjoy, or just need someone to help you figure out where to even start β I've got you.
This is what I do. And I would be honored to help you plan something your family will never forget. π

π"I Have Sat Alone in My Head For Many Years"
Yesterday, September 30th, was National Non-Speaking/Nonverbal Awareness Day β a day to honor the experiences of individuals who communicate differently, and to remind us that silence is never the same as having nothing to say.
A couple of weeks ago, I attended an extraordinary conference β and I left a different person.
Non-speaking young adults took the stage. They spelled their answers β in real time β in front of a large crowd. If you know any spellers, you understand what that requires: courage, body control, emotional endurance, and extraordinary concentration
What they shared blew me away!
These are some of the words that stayed with me:
"I have sat alone in my head for many years. My mind does not communicate with my body; I have never been able to speak. Spelling has offered me opportunities to have a place where I can be my true self β and most importantly, for the friendships I have made."
β Niko
"Having apraxia means my body doesn't always look like everyone else's. It doesn't mean I am not in here."
β Ethan
They told us about years of loneliness. Decisions made for them β what to eat, what to wear, where to go β without ever being asked. Family vacations they were excluded from. Conversations that happened around them, never with them.
And then β spelling changed everything.
Now they have friendships. They hike together. They swim together. They party together. One speller finally got to tell his family something he'd never been able to say before:
"I've never liked Taco Bell."
The room laughed. And then we all got a little quiet β because we realized what that moment actually meant.
Today I want to honor all the speakers at the Building Bridges Conference hosted by Tucson Spellers. Each one of them open the eyes of many in the audience. A mom asked me βCan this really happen for my non-verbal kid?β
βYES! I is possible!β I hope she will open that door for her child!
When there is a will, and when there is opportunity β a whole new world opens up.
That day, these young men and a young lady taught me that communication is not just about words. It is about dignity. Autonomy. Freedom.
