✨ When Memories Are All That Remain: Why Travel Matters More Than We Think
🎬 A Date with my parents
Any "chick flick" filmed in Italy? Sign me up!
After m my husband and I saw Solo Mio, I knew immediately—I had to take my parents to experience this movie.
My dad is in his 80s. He can't remember what he ate for breakfast, but I knew he would remember his trips to Italy.
It’s been a few years since he'd gone to a movie theater. My mom got him ready, my daughter, who is a nurse, met us there (just in case), and my daughter-in-law helped us with his walker.
It truly was a labor of love to take him out and plan all the "what ifs."
Sound familiar?
💙 A Special Moment In Memory Lane
For a full experience, we went to Roadhouse Cinema, where they also serve lunch or dinner while you enjoy your movie.
The lights went down. The movie began. And from there, both of my parents went on a trip to memory lane.
I could hear them whisper to each other:
"Look!"
"Do you remember that?"
"We were there..."
My heart was warm, seeing them holding hands, leaning together—remembering the beautiful journeys they took years ago.
Then there was a scene in which my dad could not help but start singing softly. With the beautiful music in the background, I saw tears rolling down his cheeks.
The power of music still within him. He remembers.
So in solidarity... I may have also cried a little. 😢 It was a moment of pure joy, of reminiscing what it used to be, now that's all that remains... memories.
🌍 Why This Matters for All of Us
Watching my parents during the movie, I saw how impactful gathering memories can be. The places we go, the experiences we have, the cultures we embrace—these aren't just vacations. They're deposits into our memory bank. And someday, those memories will be the treasures we hold dear.
Building your Memory Bank
If you've been putting off that trip—the one that tugs at your heart—this is your sign.
You don't need to have everything figured out. You don't need to wait for the "perfect time."
You just need to start. Because one day, memories might be all we have. 💛
TRAVEL WELL
🇮🇹 Italy Dreaming: Your Essential Guide to the Eternal City (and Beyond!)
Italy is one of my absolute favorite countries.
Recently, I had the privilege of helping someone plan their trip to Italy—from Rome to Venice, and many incredible places in between. It reminded me just how magical this country is and how much there is to share with you!
So grab your Tiramisu or a Cannoli and let's talk about Italy.
🗓️ When Should You Go?
Best time to see Italy with fewer crowds?
January and February: Chilly but less crowded (and hotel prices are friendlier!)
April and May: Avoid the spring break rush and enjoy beautiful spring blooms
September and October: Perfect weather, harvest season, and manageable crowds
🏛️ What Makes Italy So Incredible?
If you're a history buff, then Rome is your place. But honestly? Italy has something for everyone.
You can explore:
🏟️ The iconic Colosseum and breathtaking Sistine Chapel in Rome
🎨 The stunning art and wine country of Tuscany
🌈 Colorful cliffside villages in Cinque Terre
🌊 The crystal blue waters of Capri
👗 The fashion district in Milan
⛷️ The snowy mountain views of Cortina (where the Winter Olympics were just held!)
💕 Verona, where Shakespeare was inspired to bring us the iconic balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet
🌋 The volcanic ruins of Pompeii
🚤 Venice - a gondola ride is a must, and the small beautiful islands of Murano (where stunning glass pieces are made) and Burano (where gorgeous lace is a beautiful artisan skill)
🍝 Dining in Italy: A Love Language
Oh, the food is endless. But let me give you some insider tips:
Do NOT expect:
Pizza to taste like Pizza Hut
Pasta to taste like spaghetti with Prego sauce
This is Italy, friends. The food is authentically amazing,
Pro tip: Do not go where you see menus with pictures. Locals don't eat there. Look for trattorias filled with Italians—that's where the magic happens. Prepare for any food or sensory needs ahead of time.
👟 Practical Tips (Trust Me on These!)
Walking Shoes
Do not bring a new pair of shoes. You will walk several miles a day, and your feet deserve comfort. Break them in before you go, or stick with your tried-and-true favorites.
Rolling Suitcases
Do yourself a favor and pack light in smaller suitcases. All those cobblestones may actually give your suitcase a "flat tire!" 😅 And dragging heavy luggage from place to place over ancient Roman streets?
Trust me—been there, done that. Pack light! (elevators may not always be available)
Transportation
Italy has one of the best transportation systems in the world, but check for strikes and different options before you travel.
Use official taxis for better rates (avoid unmarked cars at the airport!)- they literally can take you out for a ride $$$ ask me how I know!
Trains are a beautiful way to see the countryside—I prefer trains over planes between cities
Purchase tickets ahead of time—this is a must, especially during peak season!
⚠️ One More Essential Tip: Watch for Pickpockets!
Last tip: Watch for pickpockets—they're like mosquitos. Fast, sneaky, and you don't feel the pain until after they're gone with your wallet! 🦟💸(kids included)
Keep yourself safe:
Use a crossbody bag that sits in front of you
Keep valuables in inside pockets or a money belt
Be extra alert in crowded areas like the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and train stations, Tower of Pisa, etc.
Don't flash cash or expensive jewelry
Keep your phone secure (not in back pockets!)
A little awareness goes a long way. Don't let pickpockets ruin your Italian adventure!

THRIVE TOGETHER
🎵 The Voice That Almost Never Was: A Story of Courage and Destiny
I heard a story about a mom who had appendicitis while she was pregnant. Doctors advised her to abort her child because the possibilities of disabilities were great.
This brave mom made the choice to carry her baby full term.
A baby boy was born with congenital glaucoma, and at age 12, he lost his eyesight completely. But this boy had a gift. He was asked to sing at church, at birthday parties, at gatherings. He also learned to play different musical instruments. He became a lawyer, but music was his destiny. 🎶
His story came to mind as I heard his incredibly musical talents during the movie Solo Mio. His voice pulls your heart from deep inside. I think he has the voice of an angel.
He happens to be my dad's favorite singer: Andrea Bocelli.
💭 What If She Had Listened?
What if his mom had listened to the doctors?
The world would have been robbed of his incredible talents. No sold-out concerts at the world's most prestigious venues. No voice that has moved millions to tears and brought hope to countless hearts.
One mother's courage changed the world.
🌟 To the Mothers Who Choose Love Over Fear
Today, I honor every mom who has had to make a hard choice—sometimes against doctors' advice, sometimes against well-meaning family and friends, sometimes against the whispers of fear in their own hearts.
I am in awe of the incredible moms out there who inspire and guide their kids to become a gift to the world.
Some are on stages. Their children's gifts are visible, celebrated, known.
Others are in quiet places—but still inspiring, still amazing, still changing the world one brave choice at a time. 💙
Your child's gift may not look like Andrea Bocelli's. It may not make headlines or sell out concert halls. But it matters.
They matter.
And you matter—brave mama who chose to believe in possibilities instead of limitations.
🎁 His music to inspire you
What gift does your child bring to the world that others might not see yet?
What hard choice have you made that you're proud of, even if no one else understood?
Who in your life needs to hear that their child is a gift—exactly as they are?
If this story touched your heart, I'd love for you to share it with another parent who needs to hear it today.
Because every child—every single one—is here for a reason. And every mama who chose love over fear is a hero in my book. 🦸♀️💛
