One of the oldest structures on earth is nearly 12,700 years old. Our country? It's turning 250 this Saturday. And somehow, this young, beautiful nation has given my family a lifetime of dreams.

DREAM

🌟The Land of Dreams: Why Every Autism Family Deserves to Dream Bigger

Good old Google and Wikipedia tell me that one of the oldest structures in the world is Tell Qaramel in Syria — some of its towers were built around 10,650 BC. That makes it 12,676 years old.

The oldest country? As you might imagine, that title goes to Egypt, founded around 6,000 BC — a stunning 8,026 years old.

And yet, today, I want to celebrate the young and beautiful country turning 250 years old this Saturday, July 4th.

Here's what makes this day especially tender for me: every 4th of July also marks the day my family migrated from Mexico City. That day, my whole world changed.

I absolutely love my native country. I am deeply proud of my heritage. (I do cringe when gringos call me Chilanga though — LOL.) And really, who doesn't love Mexican food, right?

But last Sunday, as I listened to my husband speak at church about patriotism and the privilege we have to worship freely in this country, he reminded me of how truly blessed we are to live in this amazing nation.

Setting politics aside — just look around. The abundant blessings. The opportunities. No country is perfect, but if you could move anywhere in the world, where else would you go?

Again and again, every time we return from traveling abroad, I love approaching the customs desk. The officer looks at my passport, smiles, and says two simple words:

"Welcome home."

I am proud to be Mexican by birth. But my heart loves this country that has blessed me in innumerable ways. This is the land of liberty — and the land of dreams.

And here's the thing, dreaming bigger is exactly why The Autism Passport exist. Whether your family was born here or chose this country, whether travel feels easy or feels impossible right now — you have earned the right to dream. Your family's story belongs in this bigger story too.

So this week, let's celebrate big. Let's be proud to be American!!!

EXPLORE

Every family's journey is part of a bigger story. 🎉

This week, I'd love to take you on a journey to the birth of our nation. Whether you're already nearby or dreaming of planning this historical experience someday, here are the places to visit.

Many offer sensory-friendly resources — though calling ahead to confirm current programs is always a smart move.

A few gentle tips before we begin:

  • Early-morning visits often mean smaller crowds and a calmer sensory experience

  • Save this newsletter so you can return and click each link when you're ready to plan

  • If travel isn't possible right now, make summer awesome with the virtual programs many of these sites offer on their websites

Let's follow the story — from the first sparks of revolution to the founding of the republic.

🔔 The Road to Revolution (Massachusetts)

📜 The Birth of a Nation (Pennsylvania)

🗽 Revolution & Founding (New York & New Jersey)

🏛️ The Founders & Their Homes (Virginia)

⚔️ The Final Victory (Virginia)

🏛️ Where Government Took Shape (Washington, D.C.)

Imagine standing where our founders once stood — walking the same ground, telling your family's own story of belonging. This is exactly the kind of meaningful, sensory-smart journey we help design at Gathering Memories Travel — so all you have to do is soak in the memories.

💛Celebrating Big Without the Boom

On my calendar, every single year on July 3rd, I get a reminder — a nudge to lovingly remind some of my family members with sensory sensitivities that fireworks are tomorrow. They may want to stay home, or simply prepare for the sound and light.

Because here's the truth we all know: the country's biggest birthday party can also be one of the most overwhelming sensory nights of the year.

But with a little planning, we can make this 4th of July extraordinary. Here's how:

Prepare the night before

  • Charge noise-canceling headphones and pack sunglasses

  • Talk through the plan so there are no surprises

  • Identify a quiet "escape space" ahead of time

Enjoy fireworks — your way

  • Watch from inside the car or from a distance with the windows up

  • Try a fireworks livestream on TV — same magic, gentler volume

  • Look for low-sensory or "silent" fireworks shows in your area (they're growing every year!)

Celebrate beyond the boom

  • Host a daytime red-white-and-blue picnic or craft session

  • Bake a flag cake together as a hands-on activity

  • End the night with glow sticks and calm music instead of loud crowds

Remember, friend — celebrating big doesn't have to mean celebrating loud. You know your family best, and there's no single "right" way to honor this day. You're not alone in planning around it — so many of us are right here with you. 💛

Bad news is good business. We never bought in.

Every morning, financial news follows the same script. Headlines panic, coverage catastrophises, and somewhere inside the noise is the story that actually matters — the one that tells you where the opportunity sits, not just where the fear is pointing.

Most sources have stopped looking. The alarm is easier to sell.

The Daily Upside was created by Wall Street insiders for readers who crave real insight over recycled anxiety. Five minutes of global business and finance, before the noise sets the agenda — just the facts, context, and analysis your decisions need.

Join 1M readers — including managing directors and principals at some of Wall Street’s largest institutions — who trust The Daily Upside to filter through the chaos.

The upsides are always there. We’ll find them before breakfast.
